THE KING OF CONTROVERSY
  • "There was an inscription over His head: 'THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.' " —Luke 23:38
While Jesus was hanging on the cross, the controversy about His kingship continued. "The soldiers also made fun of Him," and said, "If You are the king of the Jews, save Yourself" (Lk 23:36, 37). The other criminal repented (Lk 23:40ff) and made the act of faith: "Jesus, remember me when You enter upon Your reign" (Lk 23:42).

Let us not be like Herod, Pontius Pilate, and the bad thief. Rather, let us be like the good thief and the wise men and women of the ages, who accept Jesus as their King on His terms.
  • "Let us live honorably as in daylight; not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual excess and lust, not in quarreling and jealousy." —Romans 13:13
Happy new Church year! Happy Advent! Today, we begin to prepare for Christ's Christmas coming. We believe that Christmas is not just a memory but a reality. We believe that Jesus comes to us and is born in our lives in a real way each Christmas. Since Christmas is a spiritual birth, Advent is a spiritual pregnancy. Since Christmas is realizing not any birth, but Christ's birth, Advent is not just a spiritual pregnancy, but a Marian pregnancy.
Let us not be like Herod, Pontius Pilate, and the bad thief. Rather, let us be like the good thief and the wise men and women of the ages, who accept Jesus as their King on His terms.
  • "The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him." —Isaiah 11:2
Get out of the "culture of death" (Pope St. John Paul II). Be a part of the "new civilization of love" (Blessed Pope Paul VI). Renew your Baptism and Confirmation. Be immersed in the Holy Spirit and fire (Mt 3:11). May the Spirit of the Lord rest upon you: "a Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, a Spirit of counsel and of strength, a Spirit of knowledge and of fear of the Lord" (Is 11:2).
