MARION VICARIATE CHANGES REGARDING RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
The clergy of the Marion vicariate has come to an agreement regarding Vicariate Policies in the conduct of preparing and guiding children, youth, and adults for Sacraments and Faith formation. The policies take effect May 2022. The Marion Vicariate includes Sacred Heart – St. Louis (Gervais), St. James (Molalla), St. Mary (Mt. Angel, Holy Rosary Mission – Scotts Mills), St. Paul (Silverton), St. Paul (St. Paul), St. Luke (Woodburn, St. Agnes Mission – Hubbard), and St. Patrick (Canby). The vicariate would like to see families select and become established in a “home” parish, meaning the parish you primarily attend. The home parish is fundamental in the parishioner’s life. Therefore, families that desire sacraments, want to enter faith formation, or request a Quinceañera, are required to be registered with their home parish. If you desire to receive the sacraments or Quinceañera outside your home parish, you will be required to present a letter of permission from the pastor of your home parish. St. Patrick's parish registration forms can be found in the parish office. Other vicariate-wide changes include one form to certify that a godparent or sponsor is a “Catholic in Good Standing.” This form must be signed by the godparent or sponsor's home parish pastor. The Sponsor Form can be found in the parish office or by visiting our website at stpatcanby.org. Finally, the deadline or cut-off date to register for our religious education programs will be a notable change. The vicariate has decided that registrations must be received prior to Labor Day weekend which is September 3rd this year. If you have not registered for our programs prior to that date, you will need to wait until the next program year. These policies and changes have been made in the spirit of providing the greater community with a consistent pastoral approach. The guidelines are made to encourage continued faith formation, evangelization, and catechesis with every step of your faith journey.

provides opportunities for our youth and families to get to know one another and
contribute to our church community's culture and growth. We are so happy you are
considering sharing your talents and gifts with our students here at St. Patrick's!
If you would like to get involved in religious education, St. Patrick's, (in
compliance with the Archdiocese of Portland), has the following policies in place.VolunteersAll persons over the age of 18, who intend to work as a
volunteer in the Religious Education Program must interview with the Director of
Religious Education, complete a volunteer application, pass a criminal background
check, and complete the Praesidium Academy "Child Protection Training" classes.
In addition to the previous requirements, each volunteer will need to complete a
one-time, in-person CASE (Create A Safe Environment) training before
volunteering. This training takes place at St. Patrick Church and is led by Deacon
Jerry Giger. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the office to fill
out forms and inquire about future training dates.VisitorsTo avoid unnecessary distractions and for the safety of all students at St. Patrick
Church, all visitors/parents/guardians to St. Patrick's Religious Education Program
are not allowed to enter a classroom during class time unless the child has special
needs, as listed on his/her Medical Emergency Form. Prior approval from the pastor
or the Director of Religious Education must be granted as well.
St. Patrick's is greatly blessed to have an amazing team of dedicated volunteers.
All the catechists and teen assistants are unpaid volunteers. Students must show
respect for these men, women, and teens, not only for giving so generously of their
time, but most importantly because these volunteers are our brother or sister in Our
Lord Jesus Christ. Any disrespect or misconduct toward a catechist or teen assistant
at any class or function of St. Patrick's will be addressed to the student's parent/
guardian.
